The Fizika
There is something for everyone here
Our joint project with Saint State University and "The Fizika" took part in the international student festival Harekat 2018 in Iran this year. We've got to admit that it was our first participation in the student festival, where we were sharing ideas with students from other countries. Let us say straight away that we want to repeat it.
Foreign students are very similar to Russian students, they are active and responsive, and Iran is a beautiful and well-meaning country. Therefore, we decided not to tell you everything, but to ask the organizers and the participants about their impressions.

International Student Festival of HARKAT is one of the largest student events in Iran. The festival is organized by Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology of Iran and hosted by different universities since 2008. The thought was to gather students from different parts of the world in a combination of a festival and an exhibition. The festival aims at encouraging student projects and activities, fostering inspiration and being a starting point for international cooperation among students.
I was selected by Ministry of Science, Research and Technology to coordinate the festival because of my experiences in organizing international events.
Opportunities: Access to projects done by prominent international scholars and professionals, interactive discussions, simulations, and site visits, Opportunity to explore Iranian culture through immersive activities, Opportunity to interact with people from diverse nationality and cultural backgrounds.
From 2 years ago, the organizers started to host international participants, but all those participants were from neighbor countries (mostly Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan). Yes this year it was for the first time to have such a big and diverse international group.
This year we had a great contribution from international participants. The international participants changed the festival atmosphere, and I think it was the best possible change we made in this year.
We had 82 participants from 46 different countries (approximately) and imagine we had more than 20,000 applicants and we should answer all emails, comments and Facebook messages. Sometimes I had more than 200 emails per day. Arranging the visas also was a time consuming process.
More than 20,000 people have applied from all over the world. Some countries had more applicants including Germany, Azerbaijan, China, Russia and Oman. Most important factor to select applicants was creativity and novelty in their projects. Also we tried to keep balance in terms of gender, country of origin and field of study.
For the next year we will receive more international participants and also we have plan to provide internship opportunities for foreign students in Iranian universities.

I was a member of the International Performance Festival for gaining more experience.
In my opinion, the festival was a good quality and reached the goal it was pursuing for effective communication between the people. Of course, the ceremony needed more order and coordination.
The presence of foreign participants created a lot of good and intimate atmosphere in the festival .
Of course, I believe that the selection filters for participants should be stricter. I mean the appropriate selection of people according to the scientific goals of the festival.
I participated in many festivals but only inside Iran with different models.
It was very difficult to hold this festival due to the presence of 700 participants .
But due to teamwork, these hardships were divided between team members.
The most difficult part of the work, I think, was traveling between cities
Few universities, especially the University of Tehran, hold this model. And there are not many.
EGEA

About EGEA
I was presenting EGEA (European Geography Association), a network of Geography students and young geographers from all across Europe. It has been founded in 1987 and is today being present in 92 cities divided over 28 countries. Between these entities, as we call our local groups, we organize congresses, cultural exchanges, seminars, training events, symposiumsc, geographical study trips and more. These events offer complementary and alternative learning opportunities to formal education by combining scientific and recreational content. EGEA offers exciting opportunities for personal development to young geographers through facilitating the exploration of European countries, exposure to different cultures, and the opportunity of a lifetime to meet new friends and establish a European network of young scientists. We also empower young geographers and encourage their active participation in decision making processes on a European, national and local level. Together we want to build Europe as a place of friendship across borders, intercultural dialogue, diversity, sustainability and non-discrimination.

How long have you beeing doing it?
I personally joined egea about 3 years ago as a founding member of our entity in Halle and really starting being active on an international level after my first congress 2 years ago. There I met so many amazing people and friends for a long time while learning a lot about my studies, so I was hooked immediately.
Germany is the country with by far the most entities of EGEA (17), so I think it is pretty well known at the different Geography institutes of the country.

Harekat
The presentation in Iran has definitely not been the first external presentation of EGEA and also not my first one, but it was definitely one of the first times that our network has been brought out of the European space and was shown to people from all around the world. As this was an amazing opportunity, we will report our experiences to the board of EGEA and hopefully reach out for more of these external opportunities in the near future.

About Project
Doktor Online is the first telemedicine platform in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Clients can easily consult doctors via video calls or in-app texts. The whole experience of consulting doctors happens online. Doktor Online mobile application is both available for the Android and iOS devices.
It is the first telemedicine platform and a digital health tech startup, and as such is important for both clients and doctors in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The project has been developed for 9 months.

After an academic career and work at the EU Commission, I decided to build a startup. My background is in Behavioural Economics and building a health tech start-up was a choice because of the inefficient health care system in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We are a team of software developers and doctors, who are constantly improving the Doktor Online experience and the platform.
Doktor Online has been invited to other conferences related to health care innovations, start-up conferences, sustainable development conferences and similar.
Further plans for the Doktor Online are to offer and advertise our services for the Balkan region and to integrate behavioral science and neuroscience in the next phase.
Synthesis of ZnO and TiO2 Nano photocatalysis for Environmental Application

My project is about the synthesis of nano photocatalysis for wastewater treatment.
I started this research on 2016 and I started to synthesize the ZnO and TiO2 nano particle and I used different sophisticated equipment to characterize the particle to insure the quality of the products . SEM,EDX,FTRI,XRD and DLS were the characterizations equipments that had been used. After that I treat the textile wastewater and I got very good treatment.
It is very useful technology as it is one of the latest technologies in wastewater treatment and it can implemented in my country as well have solar radiation during all the days of years which is required for this type of particles.
I'm planning for synthesis more nana photo catalysts particle and do the pilot design for wastewater treatment in Oman.
Engineers with empathy: behind the UOW Rwanda Project

The project I did in Rwanda was as part of a subject I was doing at university called humanitarian engineering management. The requirements of this subject were to complete a project for a community in Rwanda that would solve a problem for that community.
There were 30 students and we completed 3 projects. One team built a school, one team built a water supply system and one team built a playground.
The benefits of the project for the community are that they are given access to something that would have been difficult for them to afford themselves, this gives better opportunities and a better way of life for people in the community.
https://stand.uow.edu.au/uow-rwanda-project/
The benefits for the students is that they are given real world experience where they apply skills they have learnt while they have been studying, which makes them more employable. Also they learn about different cultures, different way of life and they develop emotional intelligence, the experience also promotes inclusiveness and prevents discrimination. It opens the student's eyes to situations they would not have seen before.
The subject has run two times and is planned to run again in 2020. However I am looking at ways I can run more projects like this away from the university and with international student involvement.

What is your project about?
I am combining art and socio-political impact, through art gallery with photos from the students on what makes them leave Bosnia and Herzegovina, I want to send a message to the public and higher authorities.
How long have you been doing this?
For about a year... I feel the urge for raising the importance of this question, since the authorities are neglecting these issues.
Was it your first presentation of it?
No, I presented it in my hometown and in America.
What are you going to do next?
I am not sure yet about my other plans.

Pouya Heidari
Shahrekourd University
Iran
Could you please tell about your project?
Physics is what I have chosen to study at university.
Since I have came to university in addition to studying, I have tried to work on some projects.
My projects at Harekat was model aircrafts/jets, drones, herbal mulch and firefighting quadcopters.

What's the difference between festivals have held in 2017 and 2018?
This year was the second year that I have participated at Harekat festival.
The difference between this year's Harekat compare to other past years is that it was international Harekat which other students from other countries participated and represented their works and projects. It was a good way to communicate with them and know about how they study and work. I wish it continues every year and we reach to a level where we can work with student from all over the world.

What do you think about foreign students?
Foreign students were well educated, hard-working and interested I science. They presented lots of operational projects.
It was intresting and so easy to communicate with them. They were so motivating and full of new ideas.

Tell about your plans for the future?
Sure, I have a lot of plans and projects that I'm working or will work on them this year (But I need support for them).
Just for you to know our university will be happy if the ministry of science give us the hosting of Harekat next year.
To tell you the truth this kind of festivals doesn't take place in Iran too much because they desires lots of money and the government doesn't support, so universities themself must find sponsors and make these happens. Even government doesn't support students going to other countries for festivals.
In the other hand I have participated in some national competitions like can sat and quad races competitions.
